I always had to google to understand what is the logic on this or that sector of the map (and sometimes even search for solutions, because i dont really want to spend hour of exploring on each panel while there are hundreds of them in game). And sometimes its almost impossible, to my taste. The problem of the game is not in complexity of its puzzles (though they are tough too), but on the fact that player should find himself what symbols on the panel mean. Overall I think The Talos Principle is a much better puzzle game with an inspiring mix of puzzles AND story. but where is the story, the connection between the puzzles and the game world, the puzzle variation and music? What The Witness does it does really well, but overall it just feels lacking and shy of modern standards. Overall this game feels half baked, gorgeous graphics, some nice and clever puzzles. And background music, a little background music would have gone a long way. I'm sure some puzzle lovers will like this game, but I keep wondering how much better the game had been had there been a story in there for us as well. But here in The Witness it's all different variations of the same "on the screen line puzzle", it honestly gets pretty repetitive after a while. ![]() If you compare to Myst or Riven there were very different types of puzzles in those games which you had to solve in varying ways. But the puzzles themselves are not perfect either though since they feel very disconnected to the game world. So if puzzles alone are enough motivation for you to keep playing and solving them by all means give it a try. This game is going to appeal to a very specific type of player, it's a game for puzzle lovers who have no problem finding their own motivation or incentive to move through the game world.
